Just two weeks after Hurricane Harvey devastated the Texas Gulf Coast, Hurricane Irma has been upgraded to Category 5 and already has sustained winds stronger than Hurricane Katrina at over 180 mph.

Forecasters expect Irma to take a sharp turn to the north this weekend, but are uncertain as to exactly what track the storm will take. Florida Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency for Florida ahead of Hurricane Irma’s possible landfall there as early as this weekend.

Only three category 5 hurricanes have made landfall in the United States, including the Florida Keys Labor Day Hurricane in 1935, 1969’s Hurricane Camille and Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
